According to a blog post on the Washington Post, current Arizona Senator and one-time candidate for the office of President of the United States, John McCain (R-Ariz) was caught “passing the time by playing poker on his iPhone” during a US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing concerning the potential use of force by the US in Syria in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons on Syrian civilians by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Once the photo, captured by Washington Post photog Melina Mara, made the rounds on social media Senator McCain downplayed the distraction with the following Tweet.

When all is said and done McCain confessed to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he was indeed playing a little online poker during the 3.5 hour long meeting and that he lost “thousands of dollars.” McCain confessed shortly thereafter that he was indeed sticking it in with play chips.
