GearPoker Leaves the Equity Poker Network GearPoker Leaves the Equity Poker Network
Key Takeaways
  • GearPoker and the Equity Poker Network (EPN) “have mutually agreed to go their separate ways.”
  • The separation is effective on August 13, and it is unusual for such a move to take place without the poker room first lining up a new network to which it can migrate players.
  • EPN has confirmed that all player payouts will be met.

GearPoker and the Equity Poker Network (EPN) “have mutually agreed to go their separate ways.”

No specific reason for the decision was given in the press statement sent to pokerfuse.

GearPoker’s exit is simply a realization early in the partnership that each party has different ways of doing business—nothing more, and nothing less,” a press statement explained.

“This decision has been taken in the best interests of both EPN and the Operator,” said an EPN representative. “We wish GearPoker continued growth for the future, and we part ways amicably.”

Player Funds Secure

EPN has confirmed that all player payouts will be met. However, GearPoker does not yet have a new network home, so players will not be able to play through their client.

The separation is effective on August 13, and it is unusual for such a move to take place without the poker room first lining up a new network to which it can migrate players.

GearPoker joined EPN from its previous home at the Chico Poker Network. Chico has come under new ownership in the last year and has thrived in the US-facing market.

Not the First Skin to Leave

GearPoker is only the second skin to leave EPN. PokerHiro and EPN parted ways in February just months after the network launched.

The network was set up last year as a cooperative venture and has attracted eight skins, although Integer Poker merged with Full Flush Poker and its brand has gone.

PokerHost was the last skin to join the network having left the Merge network. Its transfer was arranged smoothly with no interruption to players.

Cash game traffic at EPN has followed a strong growth trajectory and is currently at its highest point in the network’s history. An unusual marketing strategy of ensuring tournament overlays in guaranteed tournaments has seen its tournament entries double in four months.
