The jam-packed new year continues for rising operator GGPoker as the operator announces its fourth tournament series in just two months.

Starting February 20 and spanning for over a week, the Short Deck Series returns to GGPoker, with $1 million in guaranteed prize pools.

Entirely dedicated to the exciting 36-card deck game variant, the festival follows in the footsteps of the inaugural edition in July 2021. Once again, the series boasts a seven-figure overall guarantee and the full slate of tournaments will be announced shortly.

The full schedule is expected to be revealed soon but pokerfuse can reveal the guarantees for the two feature tournaments of the series. The $525 Main Event and respective Mini Main Event with a price tag of $52.50 return as part of the schedule and their guarantees are doubled in comparison to the inaugural edition.

The 2022 Short Deck Series on GGPoker: Overview

  • Feb 20 – Feb 27
  • $1 million GTD
  • $525 Bounty Main Event – $200K GTD
  • $52.50 Bounty Mini-Main Event – $100K GTD
  • GGPoker’s Short Deck Squad will be streaming the action all series long

The latest tournament series was already hinted at by the operator with a new pop-up window upon launch of the software client. It showcases the six-plus variant and the two members of GGPoker’s ShortDeckSquad — Lu Di and Wang Kun.

They will be streaming the action throughout the eight-day series in the lucrative Chinese market. Also featured is Team Ukraine’s Denys Chufarin, who can also be found on the Short Deck streets in live and online poker.

Ahead of the upcoming Short Deck Series, GGPoker has also increased the daily cash game leaderboard for the 36-card variant as well. The brand also maintained its signature $10 million in monthly promotions from January, during which players across all stakes in Short Deck competed for $5,000 in prizes. This amount has been doubled to $10,000 for February to boost the appetite for Short Deck aficionados.

After a breakout year 2021, GGPoker has cemented the status as one of the main forces in the global online poker scene and challenged long-time market leader PokerStars for the top spot. Its ambitions are seemingly unscathed and have even increased further as the Short Deck Series is already the operator’s fourth online poker tournament series to run in 2022.

The WSOP Winter Online Circuit commenced in December 2021 and wrapped up only a few weeks ago. It was swiftly followed by the biggest-ever Super MILLION$ Week high-stakes poker contest, which featured more than $40 million in guarantees. Furthermore, the Asia Poker League Online is still ongoing and concludes on February 13.

Just over a month into 2022 and it is already apparent that this is certainly just the beginning of yet another defining year for the brand.

Something Big is Coming Soon on GGPoker

A source at GGPoker told pokerfuse “a special event is coming in the near future” but did not reveal any further details. Whether that would be an announcement of another huge record-setting tournament series or extended partnership with WSOP or even the signing of a top-tier poker personality, we can all speculate but something big is definitely on the cards.

Last year, GGPoker shook everyone by announcing GG Spring Festival (GGSF), boasting a massive $150 million in guaranteed prize money. The series went toe-to-toe with PokerStars’ Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). Both brands traded blows in the biggest month in online poker history.

Whether or not that incredible figure will be surpassed this year remains to be seen but we are sure to see GGPoker plan a similar series. Meanwhile, PokerStars has already revealed the dates for SCOOP 2022, this year running from May 8 to June 1.

Another potential festival that could be unveiled soon is the summer edition of the WSOP Circuit series.

There is also a faint possibility that both brands will continue the close-knit partnership with the third edition of the WSOP Online Bracelet Events ahead of the WSOP 2022 live poker event in Las Vegas.

After all, GGPoker has become the official host for the online satellites to the $10,000 WSOP Main Event as of 2021 and could, once again, send a large armada of qualifiers to the pinnacle live poker series of the year.

Since the in-person WSOP series moves back to its traditional summer window slot and changes locations to the Las Vegas Strip-based Horseshoe (formerly Bally’s) and Paris Casinos, this would certainly make a lot of sense.

Perhaps, however, GGPoker has been developing another technical innovation for its state-of-the-art client and may surprise everyone with something completely new.

We’ll find out soon. Keep watching this space!
