The World Poker Tour (WPT) has announced a new event to be held at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, that will take place from July 1 to July 6, competing directly with events in the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
The event is described as “partypoker presents: WPT500 at ARIA” unusually including the partypoker brand directly in the WPT tournament name. WPT is owned by bwin.party, but the brands are usually treated separately.
The tournament has a low $500 +$65 buy in and will guarantee a prize pool of $1m with a minimum of $200k to the winner.
There will be five Day 1s, with Day 2 including the final table being played on the final day, July 6. Players will be allowed to play multiple Day 1s, and carry forward their largest chip stack to the final day.
The event is going head to head with some popular events in the WSOP schedule. The $1,111 The Little One for One Drop, $1,500 10-Game Mix Six Handed, $1,500 NLHE and a $10k PLO tournament all run that week. The first two day 1s of the Main Event run on July 5 & 6.
“We expect more online qualifiers to participate in this event than any other poker tournament in Las Vegas this summer,” boasted Global Poker Director for partypoker Jeffrey Haas. “The dream of massive tournaments with accessible buy-ins remains alive, and they will come from all over the world to compete for the $200K first prize.”
His ambition will involve online satellites in partypoker brands around the world. Club WPT will also be running a prize draw with seats which can be won with “no purchase necessary.”
An instant benefit goes to all players who reach Day 4 of the WPT World Championship now running in New Jersey—they will all receive a free ticket to the WPT500 at ARIA.
