BetMGM Poker USA Closes Out 2021 with New Year Knockout Mini-Series BetMGM Poker USA Closes Out 2021 with New Year Knockout Mini-Series

BetMGM Poker USA is ringing in the New Year with a slate of progressive knockout tournaments in its New Year Knockout Weekend. The mini-series is running on all of the network’s jurisdictions, namely, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey.

The tournaments are running across all of partypoker US network sites: BetMGM, Borgata Poker, and partypoker US.

The weekend starts early, with events kicking off on Wednesday December 29, and running through until Sunday, January 2. A PKO tournament runs every day throughout that period with two being spread on the final day.

Luke Staudenmaier, BetMGM’s Director of Poker said, “New Year Knockout Weekend helps end this year and ring in the new one with a celebration of one of the most entertaining formats in poker.”

Each event follows the same format, with half the buy-in going to the prize pool and half to the bounty (after tournament fees). Promotional material states that players can win additional prizes for knocking out rivals, although the details of these are not specified.

Buy-Ins to Suit All Pockets

There is a wide spectrum of buy-ins — ranging from the date-appropriate $20.22 on New Year’s Day to the $1060 high roller on January 2. In between these two extremes, the operator is offering two tournaments under $100 — a $55 8-Max event and a $109 Turbo tournament.

The two remaining contests on the schedule are a $320 8-Max and $215 8-max which rounds off the series. All tournaments are No Limit Hold’em events.

The tournament formats and buy-ins are the same in all three states, although guarantees vary slightly between each one, with New Jersey, surprisingly perhaps, having the largest prize pools. Full details are listed in the table below.

Overlay Value on the Cards

The New Year Knockout promo is already underway with the opening tournaments taking place last night and early signs suggest that there will be some overlay value to be had over the course of the weekend.

Event #1 in PA fell $3500 short of its $20k guarantee, pulling in just $16,500. The operator fared much better in NJ however, easily clearing its ambitious guarantee of $25,000 and eventually generating a $28,200 prize pool.

BetMGM and its partypoker sister sites have had a very busy year and the holiday season has been no exception. With its Cheap Stakes series finishing as recently as December 26, it has wasted no time in putting together its next poker promo to take us through the end of the year.

With shared liquidity a real prospect for 2022, it is hard to see things slowing down any time soon. Indeed, the coming year could see the biggest expansion in US poker since Black Friday.

The New Year Knockout runs from December 29, 2021 through January 2, 2022.
