BetMGM Unveils Schedules for Online Series in Michigan and New Jersey BetMGM Unveils Schedules for Online Series in Michigan and New Jersey

BetMGM Poker has released full details for its upcoming Online Series on BetMGM Michigan and BetMGM Poker NJ. They will take place from May 16 to 23 and each features ten events, although the schedules do differ in places.

Both series have over $300k pledged in total prize pool guarantees. NJ slightly out-guns MI with $325k on offer as opposed to the latter’s $315k.

They are the latest offerings from BetMGM, in what has been a busy year for the operator. It comes less than a month after its last series in Michigan, and barely a fortnight after launching a new poker room in Pennsylvania.

Michiganders Treated to Second Series in as Many Months

The MI series opens with two Sunday events. Firstly, there is a $535 No Limit Hold’em event; this has a $50,000 guarantee. Running simultaneously, is a $109 NLH tournament. This is half the price of BetMGM MI’s usual Sunday Major but carries nearly the same guarantee: $35,000 as opposed to $40,000.

After this, there is a single event every day. They are mostly standard NLH events, apart from Thursday, which sees a Pot Limit Omaha Tournament, and Friday, which offers a Progressive Knockout.

The series concludes on the second Sunday, with what are effectively, low and high-tier main events: a $20 tournament, with $10,000 guaranteed, and a $1060 contest with $100,000 up for grabs.

Overall, it is largely similar to BetMGM MI’s debut series, held just a few weeks previously. It was a hit-and-miss affair with several tournaments having overlays, while others comfortably exceeded.

It will be interesting to see if the few tweaks made to buy-ins and scheduling have any impact on the success of the series this time around.

Simultaneous Series for New Jersey Players

The NJ series is very similar to Michigan’s in size and scope. It begins with a $535 buy-in, $50,000 guaranteed event, and winds up with a $1060 tournament, which offers a $100,000 prize pool. Other events are also duplicated with a slightly juggled running order.

However, there are a few notable differences. New Jersey players have the choice of three Progressive KO tournaments, whereas Michiganders are offered only one.

In the NJ series, all events are No Limit Hold’em tournaments while the MI series at least gets one Pot Limit Omaha tournament by way of variety.

Players should note that there is no shared liquidity between Michigan and New Jersey —the player pools are completely separate. So, although events are billed as being part of the partypoker US Network Online Series, the word network here is slightly misleading.

Sites that run on the partypoker software do share players from within a given state. For instance, BetMGM and Borgata recently launched poker rooms in Pennsylvania, and those two rooms do share players—but there is no such pool on an interstate level.

No doubt BetMGM/partypoker has one eye on future developments and is preparing for a time when it can pool its player base between states. It is a potentially smart move because if—or when—that shared liquidity happens, the partypoker Network concept will already be well established; there will be no need for a rebrand or big publicity drive.

BetMGM Online Series in Michigan and New Jersey gets underway on May 16 and runs through to May 23.
