Las Vegas poker pro Dan Smith has returned to #1 in the Global Poker Index 300 worldwide rankings for the first time since February 2013.

The move up comes on the heels of Smith’s 20th place finish in this year’s WSOP Main Event for $286,900 as well as a technical victory in the $100k buy-in Super High Roller for $2,044,766 less than a month ago at the Bellagio in which Smith agreed to an ICM chop as chip leader with Jason Mercier, Tom Marchese, and Jason Somerville.

His live poker tournament cashes now eclipse $8.5 million.

Known in the poker world as “King Dan,” the former chess player and University of Maryland attendee has also amassed more than $2 million in online tournament cashes, according to Ivey Poker, which he represents as a team member.

Smith replaces German superstar and Aria $100k Super High Roller winner Ole Schemion as the current top ranked live poker tournament player in the world, while WSOP Big One for One Drop runner-up Daniel Negreanu retains his #3 slot.

American Byron Kaverman has risen one spot in the latest GPI 300 rankings release to #4, but Russian Alex Bilokur has leaped five spots to #5 as a result of his WSOP bracelet win in the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em tournament a month ago.

Rounding out the Top 10 in the latest GPI 300 standings are Erik Seidel, Paul Volpe, Jason Mercier, Scott Seiver, and Bryn Kenney.
