Starting the New Year off in style, German-born Fedor Holz has walked away from the $200,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Super High Roller Event in Manila with $3.46 Million after winning at the largest buy-in event in the tour’s history.

Holz’s impressive victory follows his win at the Bellagio WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas where he won $1.5 million less than three weeks ago.

Up against stiff competition at the final table from the likes of Phil Ivey, Dan Colman, Steve O’Dwyer, Paul Phua and others, Holz went on to win the Triton Super High Roller Series Cali Cup and $3,463,500 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila, Philippines.

Holz also earned himself another Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard with Executive Lifestyle benefits.

“It’s so unreal. I was so close so many times [before WPT Alpha8],” Holz said after his victory. “It makes it even more special when you play against the best and win.”

How it played out

After Mike McDonald busted out in eighth place for $351,320, the official final table was formed. Ivey lead the way at that point with approximately 20 percent of the chips in play. But it was not meant to be for the WPT Champions Club Member and 10-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner as Ivey eventually busted in fifth for $656,500.

Soon after, Holz gained the chip lead and never looked back. After knocking out Steve O’Dwyer in fourth place, Holz had nearly 70 percent of the chips in play which allowed him to eliminate the last two contenders in short order.
