The Global Poker Index (GPI) has announced a deal with the Ante Up Poker Tour (AUPT) that will see GPI’s ranking formula used to award the points in the tour’s Player of the Year competition.

“Global Poker Index is doing exciting things with poker rankings, and it’s the perfect partner to spotlight Ante Up Poker Tour players and host locations,” said Scott Long, publisher of Ante Up Poker Media LLC.

The deal with GPI means that players in all formats will have the chance to earn points according to GPI’s ranking formula in the race to be the Ante Up Player of the Year. Ante Up is hoping that the change will encourage players to enter more events to have a better chance of winning.

The Ante Up Poker Tour events are all designed, scheduled and run by the casinos where they are held. There are three distinct event formats.

Championship events give each Main Event winner front page coverage in the Ante Up magazine and one player from the series will earn a seat in the 2014 Ante Up World Championship Main Event. Regional events are held in local casinos around the US and also send at least one player to the Ante Up World Championship Main Event.

Ante Up International events are held on board cruise ships that visit exotic locations around the world, and in casinos outside the US.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Zokay Entertainment, parent company of GPI and The Hendon Mob, said: “We hope for a great race towards the Ante Up Poker Tour Player of the Year title – best of luck to all players!” GPI is likely to announce similar partnerships as it expands its ranking system. The system was recently changed to expand the range of players and events it covers.

Ante Up has also been expanding, having merged with Southwest Poker News two weeks ago
