The Final Page of Subject: Poker

After an eight month run, the popular investigative poker news blog Subject: Poker has official closed its doors.

The website immediately rose to prominence when it was launched in late May 2011, with in-depth coverage of the Black Friday and Blue Monday fallout, in particular publishing exclusive stories of the inner workings and failings of Full Tilt Poker from Editor Noah Stephens-Davidowitz and excellent legal analysis from writer and law student “Karak.”

Notable articles published in its eight-month run included the exclusive disclosure on Full Tilt’s $60m deposit shortfall, outstanding loans to Full Tilt Pros, and early reporting of the Groupe Bernarde Tapie deal. The one or two missteps were over-shadowed by high quality and accuracy in over sixty published articles.

In Stephens-Davidowitz’s final post on his site, he stated he and original Subject: Poker co-founder, Thomas Bakker – who stepped down from his position last year – are to start an online poker security firm.

The staff writer who writes under “Diamond Flush,” the main contributor of the site in recent months, will continue to write on her new blog, diamondflushpoker.com.

But for those who enjoy high quality poker journalism, along with lovers of footnotes and handy explanatory wikipedia links, it is a sad day.
